Blend and serve.
Garnish with a clementine  or orange slice.

there's one idea!    I love fruit. I shop in Asian markets. I try new things.
have you sampled Dragon Fruit yet? it's colorful and delicious.
sort of like a kiwi with bits of teeny edible seeds. I'm big on smoothies too.
I can make them for an on the go breakfast, lunch or dinner.

dish it up

Mom and Me Time Recipes For The First Week Of School

Most of my followers know I have two grown sons and that I love kids. I enjoyed doing projects with my kids and also cooking with them. Still do. We apple pick in the fall. We cook together. I'm blessed. I always tried to prepare new recipes when they were living at home. Some days I'd be rushing around, sports shuttling, homework, chores, dinner. Patience was not the winner of the day one evening.
My son Todd said "Ya know Mom, I'd rather have a grilled cheese sandwich and have you spend time with us than a gourmet meal."
I listened.
We simplified and still do. Not necessarily kid recipes but we keep it simple. With today being the first day of school in my area, I thought about moms and wondered if you'd like some ideas for MOM & ME time.

My Teacher My Friend - As The School Year Closes... A Special Thanks

The following poem written by Samantha Abeel,
a thirteen-year-old girl with severe learning disabilities.
Writing became a way for her to share her feelings and to shine with her gift for words.

To a Special Teacher
by Samantha Abeel

When the sun rose
from under its misty veil,
you were there to watch,
like the birds over the sea.
When the wind came quietly
and rested in your ear,
you listened, as the earth would at dawn.

When the rain fell,
you reached out with your hands
and let it wash everything away,
like waves as they grasp the shore.
When the plain brown seed was planted,
you could already smell the fragrance of
the flower that was to come,
and you were proud
as a good gardener should be.
Thank you for believing
that there was a flower waiting inside
and for taking the timeto help and watch it grow.
When the sun rose
from under its misty veil,
you were there to watch,
and I am thankful.
my teacher my friend

As my school year comes to a close,  I see my seniors graduate....I look on with pride at how far they have come and what journeys lie ahead. I have also had the pleasure of experiencing relationships that have formed between teachers and students. Mentoring, friendships, enthusiasm, encouragement, stability. I am honored by the care and life skills they give. As for our Special Needs students - their gift has been to ME! Their love, endless smiles, helpfulness, school spirit, team spirit and care of others.  So this post is for teachers, care givers, educators - we all have something to learn don't we?  With Love, Jennifer

Moving on - graduates

I am saying "good-bye" and "good luck" to students I have known for the last 3 years in the high school I work in. Proud to sign year books. Thrilled to hear what their college plans are. Working in the Health Room setting I have shared complaints of tummy aches, cramps, can't wait for the weekend, hate that it's Monday, my teacher is mean, I think I'm pregnant, my father drinks, my boyfriend hits me, I have a pimple, can I have Vaseline for my tattoo, fever, twisted ankles, sprained knees. I love my students.....well, some wear thin. And I do remind them that they don't get a class credit for the Health Room. So I'm wishing them well, proud as can be, planning to enjoy my summer off. August comes like a heart beat! New faces, new complaints and new kids to love.

When To Keep Your Child Home From School

Here it goes - I'm putting myself out there BUT - I work in a high school health room in a school with almost 2000 students = plus staff and have 2 grown sons. I also have Asthma. I realize this is a no brainer for most, I also realize students get behind in their studies, parents have jobs, the economy stinks BUT please keep your children home if they have a temperature of 100+, are vomiting, have a severe headache, have begun new medication blah, blah, blah.... They don't go to class - they get off the bus and go to the Health Room - lay down, call home, have their temperature taken, throw up or spread cootie bugs to the rest of the staff and students. Honestly, if they're not frequent fakers - they'll be more ready for learning when they feel better. BUT - Mom's do know best!

Next Year's Nifty Idea For Halloween - Never to Late to Help a Child!

Check with your local churches, pre-schools and elementary schools next year - I just discovered that there are lots of children who's families have difficult financial situations and one of the rippling effects is that they cannot afford Halloween costumes. If you're at a yard sale or church rummage sale and see something cute and in good condition, think ahead, pick it up and set it aside for someone in need. It will make you feel soooo good. Please consider donating costumes and other decorative accessories useful for awesome outfits wherever the need may be in your neighborhood.

TGIG!!!! I mean TGIF! WHEW!

Sorry, it's been a very busy week! I don't think I have ever been so happy to see a weekend arrive. It was a hectic health room in the high school I work in, lots of friends with health issues of their own, happy times, my 9th wedding anniversary which a very enthusiastically said "Happy 10th anniversary!" to my husband right in front of his parents. Ooops! Sometimes you just have to laugh at life and breathe.... Too much drama.
