I Want Junk In My Trunk!

oooooo! I have already begun to stop at thrift shops, antique shops and look in the papers for yard and estate sales! I live near PA. and there are two places I love to hunt : Shupp's Grove and Renniger's. The surrounding towns are loaded with shops, friendly people and nice restaurants. I can go for the day - but it's also a great over night with a girlfriend, sister or hubby (if he likes to shop!).

I look for garden items

tools, buckets, chairs,

totes, funnels, baskets,

plants, shovels, rakes
vintage treasures, leather suitcases, pocket watch faces
what do you hunt for?
where do you travel to?
do you live near MD or PA?
do you collect multiples?

Friday Praise

My Friday praise: new friends, old friends, trusted friends, treasured friends, remembering my sons first moments on Earth, thinking of clusters of roses in bloom and the glorious fragrance they emit, the look my dogs give me when I walk in the door, picking up a dozen fresh eggs from a neighbor and knowing how good they'll be in the am, the rain nourishing my gardens, a hug from a friend at the end of the day. Shaking my head to realize - the day was good to me - God's Grace.

Old Fashioned Plants

Grandma - I wish I had known I would
have wanted to have bits and pieces of your garden for mine! Hens and chickens - can't find 'em! I'm attemping plant swaps in my area but so far - no succulents to be found. I guess I'll check the catalogs and the local stores.

Now THIS is a WISTERIA in BLOOM!

Number 9 Number 9
Number 9 Number 9

YEARS!

That's how long I've been

trying to beg my very healthy

Wisteria to bloom...

give me a clue, a hint,

a reason,tell me it's over....

but I just don't understand

why this huge vine thing

won't get splendid hanging, draping, glorious blossoms!!!

And NO - I don't take it personally.

How does that Wisteria bloom!!!

promote peace on Earth

I have a wisteria vine growing on a trellis in full sun ( I live in Maryland) for 9 years. I've trimmed the vines, trimmed the leaves, snipped, clipped, hugged, fertilized, groomed, complained, begged - it's healthy as can be BUT IT WILL NOT BLOOM! Can someone please give me some idea why? Pretty please?

In Search Of.... Chimney Pots

These are an item my friend Ann and I came across on one of our antiquing trips and I very much regret not snapping up for my garden - there were two and the price was very reasonable. They were also in Pennsylvania - not England! These are English chimneys and as you can see very decorative. They can be used in the home, garden and come in many shapes, sizes and colors. If you ever see one in good condition under $150.00 .... and it's your thing - you'd better grab it!
I wish I had! They are so good looking and I can't resist cool garden accents.
I'm always looking for new ideas on things to tuck here and there among the shrubs and trees. I'm also in search of a bee skep, just add it to the list.

Luckett's Spring Antiques Fair - Check it Out!

Set aside this weekend to walk around Lucketts and Lessburg, Virginia - you'll love it! I know I do! Inside, outside - treasures to be found for sure! The Lucketts Antiques General Store is a multi level shop with beautiful, fun filled spaces of at least 20 dealers. Outside there are architectural items, garden items, shabby, chic, rustic, plants - you name it - your hearts desire! Make the trip - you won't be sorry! And while you're there - head down the road (shops along the way - look for the catchy pink and black polka dot silo on the left - my friend Cathy has the first space on the left when you walk in the door) - when you hit town - enjoy lunch at Lightfoot - I've never been disappointed - try the fried green tomato appetizers topped with jumbo lump crab meat...MMMM! See ya there!

Paris Flea Market Ideas!

While browsing on-line I came upon a site that sells items from France that have such a wonderful appeal! I plan on making cards from some of the photos. As you can see - they are very Chic! My friend Ann lived in Paris for eight years and I know just the birthday gift for her in August...better get to work on my card making. School will be out in 4 weeks - thank goodness for summer break. My gardens are gorgeous, the yard sale was a blast and I dream of warm weather which hasn't quite arrived.

We're having an Open House....

I can't wait until next Saturday - pleeeeaaassseee be a nice day. I'm having an open house with my two friends Gretchen and Bobbie. Bobbie is a chef and a Restaurant Management teacher in a high school - she plans to bring bottled gourmet items and plants from the horticulture department. Gretchen had her own shop until she had her son and I'm sure will have one again one day. She is super talented - great style - probably because she's a graphic artist. She's been collecting garden items, vintage patio furniture and other gems along with custom made lamp shades. Anyone near Woodbine, Maryland come on over!

Wonderful ideas for your home and garden! So many creative people....

Wreaths made out of garden hoses are just great for Spring and Summer - on a fence post, mailbox or front door.
I discovered these instructions and photos on making troughs for plants - Google "Hypertufa" and there are a myriad of ideas on these great - great planters! I plan on keeping busy this summer trying to make a few of these. You can add bits and pieces of glass, china , marbles or shells for something different too.
