One Step Closer To Summer!

These blue eyes are telling you that
Summer will be here before we know it!
playin' in the grass, lickin' ice cream cones
Summer!
sittin' on the beach...
ANY beach...
Summer!

I've been roasting every vegetable imaginable,
trying new recipes,
being thankful for the beauty
God presents every day

getting ready for bilateral knee
replacement in March - and no,
haven't worn heels in many a moon
and the surgeries won't change a thang!
I'm more a barefoot gal.
I love my life.
I have moments, even in the Winter
when I say say "thank you Lord
for the wonder of it all"
and if I'm down....
I phone a friend (and make the recipe below)
read a book, or go to Home Goods!
Winter Drearies Tamarind Margarita
For those of you who want to make a blended tamarind margarita, here is a recipe that is very easy and has been very good. I use a tamarind paste (concentrate) instead of fresh tamarinds, which eliminates cooking, straining, sweetening, and other cumbersome steps. It may not be quite as good, but it's damn close.

Tamarind Margarita
2 oz tequila
1 oz triple sec
1 oz tamarind paste (concentrate)
1 oz simple sugar
2-3 cups ice

Combine in blender and blend until smooth. Rim glasses with chile salt. Serves 2-3.

Notes
Vary the amount of tequila based on how strong you want your drinks. The tamarind is overpowering and you probably won't taste much of the tequila.

Look for tamarind paste in Indian or Mexican markets. I use "Mr. Manish Tamarind Paste" purchased from an Indian grocery store, which contains only tamarind extract.

You may find 1 oz of tamarind paste to be a little too much. I like bold flavor and the tartness, but experiment to find the amount you like best.

Don't over blend  You want to crush the ice but still keep a somewhat watery drink. If you blend too long, the drink becomes too thick and looks kind of unappealing because of the brown color (use your imagination).

Life isn't always a bowl of cherries
but a good Margarita recipe
ain't half bad!

Haven't Felt Like Dancing Until Now.....But Here's An Update and a Backdate!

i'm back from my sick bed)...it's been 7 days of croup, hack, bark, cough, sniffle sneeze and blow. for some reason i come down with this every year between december and january. thankfully, i made it through the holidays and they were indeed divine.you don't think working in a health room every day could contribute to my germ level do you? perhaps working at night with groups of developmentally challenged adults? i try not to think of bathroom door knobs or shopping cart handles.
How many times can you apply that goopy stuff to stay "germ free"?
so i eat healthy, breathe(you have to do that),take care of my asthma, hug with the sheer pleasure of it. i'm not very good on rest and exercise...hmmmm
and i really can't dance

but I can hustle, shake my groove thang,
do the electic slide, twist and us a darn hoola hoop!
(Patti LaBelle, The Bee Gees, Dionne, Petula Clark, The Beatles, Donovan, Judy Collins)
(The Four Tops, Cat Stevens, Three Dog Night, Cream, The Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin)

on to the subject of dance, my first memory of dance was being toted to this huge old stately house on a corner owned by a woman named Mrs.Lawlor. it seemed i had 'flat feet' and ballet was advised by family doctor as a cure. so were orthopedic shoes..these look good but mine were sierra brown and the only girls that wore saddle shoes in my area went to private school... errgggh.

the lessons were in her basement - it was clear i was never going to be a star or tall or sleek.
Mrs. Lawylor made that clear - often. i
made it through, had my recital.
i believe in making ourselves feel like stars
my parents were never ones to attend teacher conferences, school plays or recitals anyway.so the family decision was to stick with the orthopedic shoes only. every day i'd leave the house(my mom was not a morning person),
walk to the bus stop, put them in my bag
and change into my sneakers.it was years of battling until one day i found my something that was cool enough to wear with my my long hair, head band, peace symbol necklace and long India print empire waist dress.

..Earth Shoes! my dad was very pissed and confused...so rolled my teenage years!

so i'm feeling better - wasn't a success with ballet -

really do like to dance if you put on the right tunes and let it go - sometimes i just put on music i like and dance in my living room in a night shirt, sometimes with a friend. you won't see me on "Dancing With The Stars" but you will see me with joy in my heart....now how about a little Aretha Franklin! Jennifer

Leave your shoes at the door...by Momma Hey

HOUSE RULES

Welcome....
cuddle up for comfort
make yourself at home
Love, Momma Hey
When I was growing up, many moons ago - my mom was a clean nut.
No rings in the house - they made scratches on the furniture and marks on the refrigerator -
baths only, not showers - it would spot the tile,
no baking or frying - it made a mess,
NO SHOES ON IN THE HOUSE.
With a hubby who drives a concrete truck, three cats and two dogs on one acre in the country - everyone should take their shoes off and wipe their paws.
NO ONE DOES.
My son Todd has met and become engaged to a sweet and loving girl. Her name is Ravy - actually Sidaravy. Whenever I would call him, Todd would answer my call with "Hey, Mom" or "Hey, what's up?". One day Ravy asked how Hey was. Naturally Todd said "who" and she answered "Hey" - "who?" "hey" .... you get the drift ... until she explained "you know, your Mom - Momma Hey?". Hence the name I am now called aside from Jenn & Jennifer = Momma Hey.
Any whoooo - the story ends with the wedding coming up on December 5th and their buying a house in Annapolis.
One of their rules: NO SHOES ON IN THE HOUSE.
With pleasure I am buying myself a jazzy pair of slippers to keep in their closet. A new stage of our happy family. I think I'll buy a pair for my husband John too.
LOVE, Momma Hey
